A handfan can be a piece of art

This fan with a complex print in beige and blue colors* is inspired by a painting named Thangka dansers, an oil painting by Marloes Otten. Do you want to know what inspired her? Then read this article. The fan is stretched on an artisanal birch wood frame finished with a soft shiny black lacquer to contrast with the fabric. The fabric is a sustainable artificial silk made of recycled material, which can be beautifully folded and stretched.

The fan is a work of art that you can take with you everywhere. Also check out the accessories, such as the carrying cords and the cases.

Sustainable & High-Quality Spanish Handfan

The hand fan is made from luxurious artificial silk, a 100% recycled material that is almost indistinguishable from real Habotai silk. The perfect fabric for the sturdy stretching on the wooden frame.
The frame is made of original Spanish AEA-quality and crafted from birch wood with a black finish.

*NOTE: the colors differ from the TENCEL scarf with the same print

* Good to know: the colors on the fan deviate from the colors on the TENCEL scarf with the same print. There is a difference in the ink absorption on fabrics from a natural source like TENCEL/lyocell and the fabrics made from recycled materials.

the design

The design on this fan is inspired by a painting with Thangka dancers. For this painting, the artist, Marloes Otten, found inspiration in a 15th-century Tibetan Thangka. An impressive, embroidered tapestry, richly decorated with gods dancing on lotus leaves, wrapped in fluttering scarves and draperies. A festive scene that you can carry with you with this fan.

handmade in EU and AEA quality

How the printed hand fans of Ottimare are made

After printing the Ottimare design on recycled silk, the fabric is cut and send for assembly to a specialized family owned workshop in Spain.

In their atelier, with over 200 years of experience, the fabric is stiffened, manually pleated, and carefully stretched onto the wooden frame. The wooden frames are handcrafted in Spain and bear the official Spanish quality mark 'AEA Abanico Español.' AEA stands for 'Abanico Artesanos Español,' the distinctive label for artisanally produced fans made in Spain. This mark is engraved on the back of the fan frame, guaranteeing the high quality of the wooden frames used in Spanish fans.
